Abstract
Economic life cycle models are utilized to effectively systematize and optimize the creation of value in companies. These models also define a framework for computer support, mySAP(R) PLM for example. This paper discusses where environmental concerns arise in the production process, which extensions of product lifecycle management are required for the systematic consideration of these environmental concerns, and which concepts can be integrated into the extensions. The concept of the economic life cycle, therefore, provides opportunities to utilize different environmental management approaches, mainly those of eco design and eco balancing
