  • Abstract
    Early landmarks in the development of optical communication are briefly reviewed, and the types of device used namely, relational and logic devices, are examined. Three kinds of optical switching networks in which they can be used are described. They are optical space-division switches, optical time-division switches and optical wavelength (frequency)-division switches.
