Abstract :
In this paper, we present a new type of broadband coplanar patch antenna. A multilayered structure was used to increase the bandwidth of the coplanar patch antenna (CPA). An additional ground plane was inserted under the coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed line, which reduces the ratio of center strip line to the total width of the CPW (sf/(sf+2wf)) and the dispersion of the feed line. An antenna operating at 10 GHz was designed. The measured impedance bandwidth (return loss < -10 dB) of the antenna was 9%. Stable radiation patterns within the pass band were observed; maximum gain of 8.8 dBi at 10.2 GHz was measured. The cross-polarization level of the antenna was -15dB.
