Abstract :
The subject of this study is the evaluation of Matlab performance for the solution of medium-scale EM problems including antenna radiation and scattering. The current version of Matlab 6 Release 12 is considered. We study three different platforms: Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Linux (kernel version 2.2.19). Also, the performance of the Matlab compiler (including C/C++ math library) is investigated. As a working example, we consider scattering of a mushroom high-impedance metal surface recently introduced by D. Sievenpiper et al. (see IEEE Trans. MTT, vol.47, no.11, p.2059-74, 1999). The high-impedance surface has a variety of unusual properties. It is currently proposed for cellular antenna backing and is also applicable to a variety of other electromagnetic problems.
