  • Abstract
    This paper developed a new technology for the recognition of traffic sign from a moving picture captured by a CCD camera in a car. In order to realize a real-time position recognition, the genetic algorithm (GA) with search region limits was employed to detect the position and size of traffic signs in real-time, and a new image filter was used to extract specified colors. Through experiments of road driving, it is shown that the genetic algorithm is sufficiently valid and this technology is feasible for real-time recognition to objects of moving picture.
