Abstract :
Audio broadcasting over wireless networks is a challenging task due to the limited bandwidth of the wireless channel and limited battery resource in the handheld devices. This paper proposes a power-efficient distortion-minimized rate allocation approach, which maintains the power consumption constraint at the mobile hosts and meanwhile minimizes the total distortions for group users in wireless systems. The performance of our proposed scheme is compared with a fixed rate allocation and downlink power controlled scheme in cellular CDMA systems. The simulation results show that our proposed power-efficient distortion-minimized scheme achieves significant performance gains of audio quality compared to the fixed scheme.
