Abstract :
This paper attempts to address misunderstandings that persist regarding transformation mechanisms which link innovation capital to economic fulfilment. It is argued that superior competitive advantage is dependent upon the adoption of strategic approaches towards technology transfer, rather than engagement in innovation activity per se. Moreover, it is acknowledged that, nowadays, technology transfer may be closely aligned with that of knowledge accumulation and translation; that is, codification, dissemination, transmission, and learning processes. In support of these assertions, successive generations of innovation models are reviewed, which thus lead to identification and examination of essential contributor components. These also include the impact of ICT, together with other major contextual issues, such as the influence of FORESIGHT exercises. A systems-based model framework is described subsequently in order to delineate the key infrastructural components needed for implementation of robust technology and knowledge transfer solutions, within an interactive pathway that connects innovation capital to exploitable conclusion.
