Abstract :
Two applications of quantitative feedback theory (QFT) for rolling mills are presented. The automatic gauge control which infers the strip thickness from rolling force is analysed using QFT to graphically show the limits of performance. The multivariable control of strip tension and mass flow has always been a classical problem to test more advanced controllers on rolling mills. The results of applying multivariable QFT to this application are described.
