Abstract
This paper investigates a convolutional-coded system with GMSK signaling where the bandwidth-time product (BT) value is much smaller than the value used in most previous research. An adaptive soft output demodulator is proposed. Significant complexity reduction is achieved without performance loss, by using differential precoding, the Laurent (1986) signal representation and sampling the received symbols at the end of the symbol duration. The performance of the demodulator is studied in AWGN and slow flat Rayleigh fading channels through simulations.
