Abstract
This work provides help in the task of understanding and estimating the uplink radio capacity in cellular communication systems based on the CDMA2000 1X specification. A clear and precise method for initial capacity estimation is derived, explicitly showing the effect of the new overhead uplink channels. Emphasis is placed on describing the concepts, parameters and conditions that affect such capacity. An effort is made in adequately applying the recommendations provided in the CDMA2000 standard. Finally, several application examples are presented and numerical results are obtained and discussed.
