Abstract
This paper presents different strategies of power control in a UMTS FDD system applied to user in soft handoff. The strategy defined in the 3GPP standard is analyzed and compared to an improved strategy aiming at limiting the additional interference generated by soft handoff. It is shown how the proposed algorithm could be implemented in the current release of UMTS with little adaptation. Finally, simulation results based on Monte-Carlo analysis highlight the benefit brought by the proposed method.
