Abstract :
This paper describes the 21st century\´s road platform and its applications. The author insists that the road platform should have three common basic functions to be provided to intelligent transport system (ITS) applications, that is, the basic driving function, the real-time positioning function, and the real-time seamless positioning function. After mentioning concrete elemental techniques to realize such functions, road platform "Dot ITS" is proposed. This paper also shows that if these functions are provided, not only almost all applications that are described in the ITS architecture, but also many other ITS applications can be realized; in addition, the "software ETC" proposed in this paper can be also realized.
