Abstract :
The purpose of this presentation is to identify and discuss requirements for data acquisition, monitoring and control systems for large wind farms in the new deregulated electric utility industry. Significant penetration of wind power in the existing energy systems will have large influence on the operation and control of the transmission grid to which the wind parks are connected. As more and larger wind farms are connected to the electricity grid, there will be a need to develop standardized protocols for communication and interface between the wind power plants and the other system operating entities. This presentation discusses state-of-the-art technologies for data acquisitions at substations that interconnect wind farms to the grid. In addition the work being done by standards organization, i.e. IEEE TC88, are presented.
