Abstract
A tree-like amplifier architecture is proposed that yields a large gain-bandwidth product, overcoming the intrinsic limitations of the cascaded approach by exploiting additive gain. The tree approach enhances the gain without sacrificing bandwidth, at the expense of power dissipation, by summation of the output currents of multiple stages on the same load and maintaining wideband interfaces between stages. Moreover it is shown that by using a single-ended to differential converter, we have previously proposed, as a basic stage of the tree structure, the gain-bandwidth product of the tree-like amplifier is maximized with respect to tree structures based on simple differential pairs.
