Abstract :
In all data receivers that detects a nonbinary signal, the received signal level is calibrated in accordance with a desired target. This target is chosen related to different thresholds of the data detector. The present paper investigates three different strategies of amplifier gain control. These strategies, denoted as "absolute value gain correction", "dB-value gain correction" and "combined gain correction", are mathematically analyzed. Simulations are performed in order to evaluate the performances of the above strategies and to compare them in terms of convergence speed, correction loop stability and hardware simplicity of the practical implementation.
