  • Abstract
The present research work is concerned primarily with the problem of voltage unbalance on distribution systems. A prototype automatically controlled voltage stabilizer and balancer using thyristors valves to switch the capacitors and inductors has been investigated. A digital control scheme incorporating a microcontroller is developed. All auxiliary hardware required for the three phase balancer are designed. The system voltage is measured by the microcontroller and compared with a predetermined reference value. Accordingly, the microcontroller adjusts the voltage to the desired value. This is achieved by controlling a thyristorised static VAr compensator through microcontroller software. In this paper, preliminary results from experimental studies are obtained.
