Justification on the applications of automatic voltage regulator and capacitor on long medium voltage distribution feeders

The problems usually encountered in operating long medium voltage feeders are poor power quality and excessive line losses. Using a very simple analysis with the help of simple AC load flow on distribution feeder, the benefit of AVRs and capacitor is assessed. The effect of different type of loads, constant impedance and constant power loads and the method of locating the AVRs and capacitors are explained in simple and practical ways.
