Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel idea to implement realtime telecommunication in the real-time distributed control system for large-scale power systems. To satisfy the requirement of real-time performance, the scale of the distributed control system will be limited and fat-client/server paradigm must be adopted. After carefully estimating the reliability and the delay of communication, it is pointed out that ATM networks based on SONET will be able to undertake the task of real-time telecommunication. Then, a solution using the technology of VPN is proposed as a practicable method to build up the real-time communication network.
