Abstract :
This paper discusses the effect of pilot signals on the performance of adaptive antenna array algorithms. The adaptive antennas are employed on the downlink of wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) mobile communication systems which operate in frequency division duplex (FDD) mode. The algorithms are first simulated under a scenario where all required parameters are known to both base station (BS) and mobile station (MS). Also, different types of pilot signals are described and the algorithms are simulated under a scenario where these pilot signals are used to estimate the required parameters. The impact of the different types of pilot signals on the performance of the algorithms is then discussed.
