Abstract
Consequences of transition to market for Russian electric power industry are considered in the aspect of power systems development. Motivation and attitude to construction of new power plants, mechanisms of its financing, levels of required electricity prices are analyzed for regulated monopoly and free market. Expected electricity price rise caused by termination of new power plants construction and shortage of electric power at the wholesale market is evaluated.
