Abstract :
This paper presented a new control criterion for the conventional time domain simulation by using the extended potential energy boundary surface method. Restrictive conditions are introduced for the development of a quantitative judgement method of power system transient stability by time domain simulation. The method provides stability or instability criterion based on trajectory analysis such that it applies to all power system models. The drawback of numerical simulations is that a proper criterion could not be offered for stopping the simulation process. It is overcome by the present. method, which has been successfully demonstrated for 6-machine 22-bus system Chinese EPRI and a realistic northwest China system (46 machines and 230 buses). Higher analysis accuracy and efficiency of numerical simulation have been achieved. It is a valuable method for transient stability analysis.
