Abstract :
Starting with the analysis of usage scenarios featuring ad hoc extensions to radio access networks, the IST MIND (Mobile IP based Network Developments) project is developing novel applications, network and radio layer solutions. This paper presents the characteristics of the new elements identified through the study of usage scenarios. Their functionalities and the roles they will take in future business models are described. How these new nodes can be efficiently accommodated in an IP architecture and its implications for mobility, QoS and multicast provision is exposed as well.
