Abstract
The dynamic frequency and channel assignment (DFCA) is a powerful tool to increase the spectral efficiency of GSM/EDGE synchronized networks and also has the capability to manage varying quality requirements of different user types. Previous studies have proved this ability using regular network scenarios. In this paper the application of the DFCA concept in a GERAN irregular network with a mix of services is analyzed. This irregular network is directly adapted from a real operator network to the SMART simulation tool. Simulations involve multiple scenarios with varying service mixes including both circuit switched and packet switched services. The results show significant capacity gains.
