Abstract
The clinical assessment of cardiac electrical function is usually performed by human interpretation of 12-lead ECG recordings. We investigate the use of mathematical models to obtain a quantitative electrical image from high-density ECG recordings. The process of modeling the electrical activity at the (continuum) cell level through to the torso surface, while maintaining a continuous path for current flow is presented. This provides a basis for the interpretation of ECG signals the so-called inverse problem of electrocardiography. The techniques used to solve the inverse problem are presented and the model is used in a clinical setting for validation purposes.
