Abstract
A derivation is presented for the relation between errors in calculated electric fields and errors in potentials measured during defibrillation. The derived relation is experimentally verified by measurements in an electrolytic tank. The analysis shows that the electric field error is a linear function of the ratio of the common mode and differential mode voltages. The results demonstrate that, for bipolar mapping of the electric field, placing the reference electrode close to the measurement electrodes can minimize the error.
