Abstract
Cross correlation of the temporal variations of the angle of the mean electrical axis (AMEA) of the heart and respiratory patterns during sleep was studied. Estimates of AMEA were obtained from Lead I and III in (3) female and (1) male subjects (26.7 ± 1.5 yrs; body mass index of 22.6±3.5 kg/m2) with no cardiovascular or respiratory dysfunction. The overall mean cross correlation of the AMEA with chest band plethysmography in this study was 0.50±0.18. Results indicate that AMEA alone may not reflect respiratory events adequately.
