Abstract :
An LC bandpass filter with ultra-wide frequency tuning ability is presented based upon an improved magnetically-coupled inductance tuning scheme. In comparison to the elementary arrangement, the modified tuning scheme switches the input to the opposite port with inherently less associated loss thus enhancing the intrinsic quality factor. Verified via simulations in a 0.8 μm BiCMOS process, the designed 2nd-order LC bandpass filter achieves more than 500 MHz tuning range extending from 0.7 to 1.2 GHz (equivalent to over 50% frequency tuning capability) at a single 2-V supply voltage and 9 mW power consumption.
