Abstract :
A new concept of asynchronous time-division multiplexing is proposed. The concept is based on a new format called ´transition place coding´ (TPC). The TPC principle is outlined. The proposed multiplexing is compared with other asynchronous TDM schemes. It is expected that fibre optic transmission will be suitable for realising the proposed concept.
