Abstract
The optical property of the readout signal of the super-RENS disk was experimentally examined using a disk drive tester with the mask on the pupil plane of the pick up lens. The signal distribution of the small marks was different from that of a conventional optical disk. The distribution was similar to the radiation from a small light source (scattering center) in the mask layer. We may reconsider the design of the optical pickup to decrease the noise without the degradation of the carrier.
