Abstract :
A hollaw composite insulator consisting of an inner tube made of glass-fibre reinforced epoxy and of an outer sheath including the sheds made of silicone rubber has been developed as an alternative to hollow porcelain insulators. The paper describes the principal construction of this new insulator and the mechanical and electrical development tests which were performed. Finally, some examples of practical applications with high voltage apparatus are given.
