Abstract
The rapid advancements in miniaturization of electronic devices, sensing, battery and wireless communication technologies has enabled a new generation of wireless sensor networks, called Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). In these networks various sensors are attached on clothing or on the body or even implanted under the skin. One of the major challenges in this network is to prolong the lifetime of network. The data transmitted from the sensors are vulnerable to corruption by noisy channels, reflections and distortions. There are two techniques employed ARQ and FEC. In the first phase of this work, we discuss the principle of fountain codes that derives from the FEC. In the second phase, we evaluated the performances in terms of energy consumption, provided by ARQ and FEC in WBAN, to show who performs the best.
