  • Abstract
The emergence and growth of wireless networks is driven by the need to lower the cost associated with network infrastructures by deploying wireless networks that offer access flexibility, at an affordable cost. Proliferation of wireless data communication and the Internet in urban areas have changed how people and businesses communicate. This is not the case in rural areas of developing countries where 80% of the population is found. We propose a flexible network for Internet services using CDMA access, which has the potential to cover the longer ranges characteristic of rural areas. We study the performance of the RAKE receiver with parallel interference canceller (PIC) structure in mitigating multiple access interference in rural multipath channels.
