Abstract
In order to design automatic systems in building automation supporting the capability of perceptive awareness, three specific functions are to be met: perception of the current situation, recognition of the current situation, and preventive reaction in response to the recognised situation. This paper considers the capability of perception by analysing the way this faculty is to be handled in a perceptive awareness automatic system. Human neuroscience is taken as the basis of the perceptive awareness model, therefore, references and similarities to the way perception takes place in humans are made.
