Abstract :
A significant number of freshman students entering Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria (UTFSM), Valparaiso, Chile, lack the abilities and personal characteristics needed to meet the requirements of the first year engineering courses. In this work we apply the idea of stratification to contents or subject matter, guidelines and problem solving processes. In fact, we order and present the corresponding material taking into account the growing complexity and level of difficulty providing the student the opportunity and support to develop systematically the experience and ability to learn and apply mathematics.
