Abstract
Summary form only given. The diffraction by holographically recorded gratings in volume media exhibits strong dependence on the wavelength of the illumination and therefore narrowband filters can be synthesized. The 3-D construction of holographic gratings provides opportunities for synthesizing filter shapes with unique properties and novel functionalities for telecommunications and other applications. In this paper, holographic filters are described and recent progress is reviewed.
