Abstract
Perpendicular magnetic recording is expected to provide new generation high-density, large capacity magnetic recording equipments. It is inherently more suited for digital recording than for analog recording, because of its sharp magnetization transitions. Among many perpendicular magnetic recording media presently under development, the Ba-ferrite particulate recording media is the most promising candidate, from a practical point of view, for application in high density audio and video recorders. Ba-ferrite tapes showed excellent high density performances. In DAT applications, Ba-ferrite tapes exhibited sufficiently low error rates, even when they were used in a metal tape compatible mode. Ba-ferrite tapes are also expected to be successfully used in magnetic contact printing for DAT recorded tape mass production.
