  • Abstract
The design of a chip set for audio signal processing is described. There are three parts to the set: TMS32010, a digital signal processor, TMS32050, an analog input device, and TMS32051, an analog output device. The digital processor has a machine cycle of 200 nsec, a 16 by 16 parallel multiplier, and a 32 bit ALU/accumulator. Although supporting a general purpose microprocessor instruction set, the digital processor has been optimized for high speed arithmetic. The processor contains sufficient memory to operate as a stand-alone system and supports external memory expansion for flexibility and special applications. The analog interfaces not only contain A/D and D/A converters, but aliasing and smoothing filters which are programmed from the digital processor. The interface circuits incorporate 8 word FIFOs and necessary handshaking logic to interface with the processor. The interface circuits both have a 96 dB dynamic range and 8-bit accuracy.
