Abstract :
We propose some improvements to an optimal algorithm used to design finite wordlength linear phase FIR (Finite Impulse Response) digital filters. We consider also a new version, which allows the designer to introduce constraints in the discrete optimization problem. Examples are given concerning the optimal design of : a filter without multipliers, a third-band filter, a low-pass filter with a constraint on step response ripple.
