Abstract :
In this paper we present a new approach to the recognition of consonants. This approach is based on the modelling of the vocal tract by two acoustic cavities with the voicing source at the input of the first cavity and the fricative noise or pulse source at the junction of the two cavities. The separation of the system into these dual cavities results in an ARMA structure for the acoustic signal.
