Abstract
The theory of fuzzy sets has been used to deal with image enhancement problems of some degraded images in which there are uncertainties and inaccuracies. For those kinds of images, good enhancement effect can be obtained using a fuzzy sets-based image enhancement method instead of the traditional image enhancement approaches. A generalized image enhancement algorithm using fuzzy sets is proposed based on the fuzzy enhancement algorithm. This new algorithm retains the advantages of the fuzzy enhancement and the gray level transformation, and therefore is suitable for handling the enhancement problems of images that have less gray levels and low contrast. Finally, a simulated example is given to demonstrate the validity of this enhancement method.
