  • Abstract
    External gap type line arresters have been applied in overhead transmission lines for more than 15 years in Japan. They are used for the important lines and/or those with considerable lightning problems, and lightning protection performance with the arresters has been proven. This paper introduces design and performance of external gap type line arresters. A compact design of the arrester is also introduced as a recent technology.
