Abstract
We present an improved maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) algorithm for preamble-based OFDM frequency synchronization. This proposed algorithm employs time diversity schemes to reduce the effects of fading channels. In particular, two combining methods, selection diversity (SD) and maximum ratio combining (MRC) are investigated and analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly improves the performance of frequency synchronization in multipath fading channels.
