Abstract
The paper analyses the requirements for a medium data rates waveform for a SATCOM system; then it describes the design that can fulfill these requirements. The performance of an orthogonal slow frequency hopping waveform in stressed and unstressed conditions is analyzed. Different solutions for the coding scheme based on turbo codes or block processing are studied in order to improve robustness against jamming. The use of diversity, the interest of channel state information and the behavior with a hard limiter on board the satellite transponder are also analyzed.
