Abstract :
A wideband array element is described, that is formed by a Sierpinski fractal monopole feeding an open fronted cavity. It is shown that removal of the cavity side-walls reduces the lowest operating frequency. Good input return loss is obtained over a very wide bandwidth and acceptable patterns are seen over a 3 to 1 frequency range.. The array element size is such that well-defined array patterns should also be obtained over this range.
