  • Abstract
The improvement in downlink throughput attained by using dual-antenna terminals is quantified within then context of UMTS high-speed packet access. It is shown that, with simple linear combining, the increase in average throughput resulting from the addition of a second terminal antenna ranges within 16-70%. Moreover, since only receiver processing is involved, no standardization is required.
