Abstract
In this paper, we use a discrete Markov chain model to analyze the throughput-delay performance of the CSMA/CA protocol in WLANs under the influence of the capture effect. The stations are power-controlled, so we consider the possibility of frame capture of only a single station which is exposed to Rayleigh fading. By sampling the backoff deferral interval with fixed probability p (estimated in saturation conditions), we were able to determine the upper theoretical limits of channel utilization and mean delay for different traffic loads and different capture ratios.
