Abstract
This paper aims at contributing to the dimensioning of the signalling bandwidth of a broadband geo-satellite system for multimedia communications. Signalling channels are used by the satellite terminals to set up connections and ask for on-demand resource assignment. A smart dimensioning of the satellite bandwidth plays a key role in the fulfillment of the service quality required by multimedia traffic and the effective exploitation of the satellite spectrum. We accomplish this task by designing a statistical centralised CAC accorded with an intelligent scheduling of the resource requests on board the satellite. The proposed traffic and resource management techniques have been tested over a simulation platform for the EuroSkyWay satellite system.
