Abstract :
A theoretical basis for a new class of rational system of digital to analogue conversion, where the ratio of two low resolution, uniformly-quantised DACs is used in tandem to achieve higher precision, is described. The system provides a means to scale, at run-time, the effective precision of the DAC as a function of power consumption to meet varying power budget constraints in a device.
