Abstract :
This paper deals with the direct estimation of stray load losses of induction motors from the motor input parameters, using genetic algorithm based parameter estimation methodology. An exact equivalent circuit model is considered for parameter estimation in which the stray load loss component is separately represented as a resistance component in the rotor circuit, in series with the torque producing rotor resistance component. The estimated values of stray load losses are compared with the measured values obtained from direct and indirect measurement methodologies, suggested by IEEE 112, at different operating points in the linear operating region of the motor. The method is simple to implement under field operating conditions of the motor and is novel in its application.
