Abstract :
There is a desire to provide small, lightweight mobile interaction devices. This paper describes a PDA-based teleoperation interface for mobile robot. This interface differs from previous PDA teleoperation interfaces in that it uses only touch based interactions rather than stylus interaction. Three screens were developed: an imagery-only screen, a sonar and laser range finder based screen, and image with sensory overlay screen. This paper presents the interface motivation and design and discusses issues that arise when employing a PDA as a touch screen. This paper also describes the planned human factors evaluation.
